“Developing” your book

is like light revealing the image on an opaque photographic negative in a darkroom.

Gradually, the whole picture appears.

Together, we provide that light.

something inside you wants to be known.

As a book-development consultant with 30+ years of experience, I understand that writing a book isn't about formulas—it's about nurturing what wants to emerge. Because there’s already something inside you that wants to be known.

This is not only a creative truth — it’s also a spiritual one. “I was a Hidden Treasure and I longed to be known,” the Divine is said to have said.

This means that each one of us has this treasure within us.

And it’s important — to us . . . to the world . . . to Life itself — to bring it out.

But the very nature of the Hidden Treasure is that it’s not known to you yet. It’s deeper inside you than on the surface.

So when you sense that you want to write a book, you may know very little about it. You may know only that you feel called to write it. Even if you have some inkling of some of what your book is about . . . even if you have jotted down some notes, or already written some pages . . . you may feel unsure about what to do next.

  • “Should I come up with an outline before I do anything else?”

  • “Should I find and follow some kind of book-writing template?”

  • “Should I act like this is a paper like the ones I used to write for school, and tackle it like an assignment?”

  • “Should I get an AI to do it for me???”

Well . . . no. True book development services honor your creative process rather than forcing it into templates. My approach to manuscript development recognizes that authentic books grow organically.

Because — even though there’s a lot you don’t yet know about this book gestating inside you (however far you have or haven’t come with it) — not-knowing at the outset is the nature of the creative process. It’s an intrinsic part of discovering your “Hidden Treasure” and bringing it into a beautiful form.

You can’t just sit down and order it to show up. You have to invite it out gently, kindly, with interest in what it wants to be when it grows up.

You have to let it . . . develop.

It’s like developing a photograph in a darkroom. At first, the photographic negative looks dark, blank, featureless. Then gradually, as it interacts with the chemical solution it sits in, an image — barely discernible, at first — begins to suggest itself. Bit by bit, the full image comes clearly into view, its shapes and features now obvious. “Oh, it’s a cypress tree,” or “Oh, it’s that meadow near the water,” or “Oh, it’s a picture of my aunt Sally when she was young. . . .”

It’s obvious, once you can see it. But it took time and the sanctuary of the darkroom to develop.

In a similar way, that’s what we do with you and your book. We let it develop, and see what it wants to be.

It will let you know. You will feel the rightness of its development. Even if it takes turns that your cognitive mind didn’t expect. And these pathways along which it follows will brighten your heart, unlock your inherent radiance. Show you to yourself in a way you are grateful to discover.

I bring to your book — and to your experience of writing it — 30+ years in the publications field, plus a lifetime’s dedication to what brings about true healing (I am a Healing Conductor in the Sufi tradition of Hazrat Inayat Khan).

I would be honored to help you develop the book that’s in you

Here's what just a few of the writers who have worked with me say about my book development process:

“Supportive, kind, and wise, Naomi is an excellent guide and editor for developing your book and bringing it forth in beautiful shape.

“Highly recommended! She is so kind and supportive and gentle and appreciative, yet perceptive of the places where my book needed improvement, from commas to emotional nuances. I worked with her over many years to revise, edit, and polish my trilogy — and always felt gracefully received and held through this 'book birthing' process. Her faith in my book has been and is still very important to me in keeping my inner critic at bay. She has inspired me to honor what I have written by doing the work necessary to bring it into the coherent and beautiful form it deserves.”

“She shared my vision, and was genuinely excited about getting this book out into the world. She offered the support I needed to create the book that I dared to dream was possible! The book is now changing lives, and finding its way into homes and hearts around the world.”

OPTION 3:

READ MY BOOKS ON THE CREATIVE PROCESS

to discover the wealth of natural creativity available to you,

in your own way.

and down the road,

when your book has been completed,

your presence will live on the page

because of how you’ve listened to yourself during the developmental writing process.

And it will resonate with your readers in a kindred way.

That’s how you change the world for the better through a book.

It’s immensely gratifying to know that what you unearthed in yourself through your writing has truly reached your readers. It’s happened to me many times. And it can happen for you, too.

For example, after the publication of my book, Starting Your Book: A Guide to Navigating the Blank Page by Attending to What’s Inside You, one reader wrote to tell me things that were music to my heart:

“I felt that you were speaking from the heart, seeking to be of service from the sincere desire to assist, not to indoctrinate or impress. And I felt that you and I were having a conversation. Thank you for sharing your ideas and caring with the world through a book. I learned things, I felt understood, and I grew increasingly inspired as I turned the pages." — Sarah Beaber

What a joy to realize that what I had wanted to transmit, in following the writing path developing within me, was so deeply received! (Something you too can look forward to.)
