There is such a sweetness in this image of a sow with her young one. It’s not the usual piglet-posture of feeding — that unconscious, primal need to reach the milk-giving teat. Instead, there’s an intimacy that’s palpable: the piglet’s eager body draping over the mother’s snout, close to her eyes and warm breath; and the mother not just allowing it but also enjoying it, her eyes warm with tenderness, her ears alert, her mouth seeming to smile. That this love shows up between mother and child even in animals we don’t usually associate with tenderness says something about the primacy and universality of this bond. Use this visual mantra to tickle your heart . . .to imprint this caring closeness . . . and to wash away any inner obstructions to the ubiquity of mother-love that you might have picked up in your life’s journey. Let this expression of “pig love” open the door to seeing and feeling, in and for yourself, the love that expresses itself from everywhere.
