It used to be believed (in some now-obsolescent psychologies) that the mother-child relationship went in only one direction — from mother to child. But while it’s true that the child is utterly dependent on the mother for some time, it’s also the case that the mother is affected by the child’s attentions. The child’s gift and reception of adoration comes naturally, a reflection of the pure spirit that hasn’t yet been negatively influenced by the conditions of human life. But for the mother, it’s not often a continuation of what she’s been used to. More often, the experience of adoration is sparked by the amazement of having given birth to a radiant human being; by the soul-refreshment of receiving such total adoration (what adult doesn’t long for that?); and by the opportunity, the surprise, of getting to remember that pure state in which adoration is a way of being. In this visual mantra, the mutual adoration of both mother and child can be glimpsed in their postures, their smiles, the light in their eyes — even in the vibrant space between them. Use it to tap into your own remembrance of adoration (both given and received), and let it open and connect you to the endless reservoir of love and well-being in your heart.
